Flag Day: A fitting birthday for a proud American

Happy birthday to both our flag and our sheriff

Today, Flag Day, is also the birthday of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. How fitting that this proud American, the son of Italian immigrants, celebrates his own special day with that honoring one of the enduring symbols of our liberty. As we fly our flags today, it’s worth reflecting on the many legal immigrants who came to this country through the front door, learned the language of our country, joyfully became citizens, and worked tirelessly to make lives as Americans in this great nation.

Sheriff Arpaio’s distinguished career in law enforcement, including worldwide assignments with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, are indicative of the national pride instilled in such grateful immigrant American families, appreciative of the opportunities afforded them. He concluded his remarkable federal career as head of the DEA for Arizona. Read his bio here.

Flag Day traditions are a meaningful part of our nation’s history. Facts regarding the background of this uniquely American holiday are provided by the National Flag Day Foundation. Take a few minutes and acquaint yourself with some of the fascinating information provided. Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States on June 14, 1777.

I Pledge Allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

I appreciate you posting this about our sheriff, who has done the job he has repeatedly been elected to do. For his efforts he is being savaged by the federal courts and local media. I recently sent him a contribution toward his next campaign. I hope others on this conservative site will join me. His extensive law enforcement background and willingness to keep his promises to those of us who elected him makes Joe Arpaio the ONLY elected official worth supporting. My “Republican” congressman is slippery and state office holders often disappoint. The two US Senators John McAwful and Jeffy the Flake, who are supposed to be representing us are actually representing the democrats thru their promotion of amnesty for illegal aliens, who will vote with the dems once they are able to “come out of the shadows.”

Help Joe. He’s the real deal!

Fortunately it is not another paid holiday for State & Federal workers.

    • MacBeth says:

Conservative AZ Gov. Evan Mecham proposed changing his liberal predecessor Bruce Babbitt’s mandated MLK holiday to a Sunday, reasoning that Martin Luther King, Jr. was a minister which made the change appropriate and that the state couldn’t afford another paid holiday. For his efforts he, like Joe Arpaio, was brutalized by the left and the colluding media.

Sports teams refused to play in Arizona and threatened to cancel Super Bowl XXVII. Resorts, hotels and other venues felt the sting of tourism that dried up and in the end Mecham was ultimately driven out of office through a state senate impeachment. He was ultimately exonerated but the damage was done and his career ended.

You should be onboard supporting Joe Arpaio. Are you?

What a surprise!! The usually verbose SmallGovt isn’t answering. Unlike you and me and hopefully thousands of others who show their gratitude to our fine sheriff, Smallgovt is good for grousing but little else. Since his hatred of “government workers” is what drives him, that would mean that Joe Arpaio, who draws a county check, is on Smallgovt/s coal-in-the-stocking list.

He should hope he doesn’t suffer a stroke or heart attack and needs to services of a team of fire department first responder to save his life. Would he call 911 and report a crime and expect a response? Does he want his and his neighbor’s garbage picked up and the courts to function? Who does he expect to fill the postholes and maintain the streets and highways?

Small people like Smallgovt have no idea what it takes to properly maintain and service cities, but they are jealous of the salary and benefits those who respond 24/7 earn. He has probably never served this country in uniform, risking his life, but begrudges what others who do sp earn…which isn’t much.

He hasn’t answered, because he has no answer. Joe Arpaio’s officers are on duty around the clock while Smallgovt grouses.

I agree w/ Mecham on the MLK Day holiday and would also combine Veterans Day and Memorial Day into one holiday. I would be happy to give any City, State, or Federal Worker the Day off WITHOUT PAY if it were important to their life.

The Flag is flying in front of our house today. Reading the commentary above by SRAZ just reinforces the love I have for this country.

And Happy Birthday Sheriff Joe – 83 today. He still wants to endure the unfair treatment of our government and vicious media to be Sheriff once again.

According to Wikipedia, Sheriff Joe’s mother died giving birth to him. He was raised by his father, an Italian immigrant grocery store owner. I never heard him complain about his upbringing. I’ll bet he loved it – even without his mother. He certainly became a success reading his bio.

Maricopa County is lucky to have Joe Arpaio. (I did send a check.)

Priceless! Who doesn’t love this guy:

(Wikipedia) On July 2, 2011, when the temperature in Phoenix hit 118 °F (48 °C), Arpaio measured the temperature inside Tent City at 145 °F (63 °C). Some inmates complained that fans near their beds were not working, and that their shoes were melting from the heat.

[46] During the summer of 2003, when outside temperatures exceeded 110 °F (43 °C), Arpaio said to complaining inmates, “It’s 120 degrees in Iraq and the soldiers are living in tents, have to wear full body armor, and they didn’t commit any crimes, so shut your mouths.”[47]

Flag day is everyday, America, while our troops are in harm’s way and our police are under attack, as well. Fly your flags, Americans……while we can.
