AZ US Rep. Gosar shuns Pope Francis’ speech to congress

Pope abandons moral authority in favor of  emphasis on leftist policies. He disdains capitalism and embraces the radical environmentalism and false science of climate change, rather than focusing on the persecution and slaughter of Christians and religious minorities by ISIS and other Islamic terrorist organizations, and intentional genocide of unborn children by Planned Parenthood

U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar, a Republican representing Arizona’s 4th Congressional District will not be joining in either Obama’s grand red carpet roll out for or the address to congress by Pope Francis. Gosar, who defines himself as a proud Catholic, was educated at Jesuit schools, where he obtained both his undergraduate and DDS degree.

In this Townhall.com commentary, Congressman Gosar explains why he is boycotting Pope Francis’ congressional address. The following is excerpted from his cogent message:

“Many believed, like I did, that this was an opportunity for the Pope to be one of the world’s great religious advocates and address the current intolerance of religious freedom. An opportunity to urgently challenge governments to properly address the persecution and execution of Christians and religious minorities; to address the heinous and senseless murders committed by ISIS and other terrorist organizations. An opportunity to address the enslavement, belittlement, rape and desecration of Christian women and children; to address the condoned, subsidized, intentionally planned genocide of unborn children by Planned Parenthood and society; and finally, an opportunity for His Holiness to refocus our priorities on right from wrong.

Media reports indicate His Holiness instead intends to focus the brunt of his speech on climate change–a climate that has been changing since first created in Genesis. More troubling is the fact that this climate change talk has adopted all of the socialist talking points, wrapped false science and ideology into “climate justice” and is being presented to guilt people into leftist policies. If the Pope stuck to standard Christian theology, I would be the first in line. If the Pope spoke out with moral authority against violent Islam, I would be there cheering him on. If the Pope urged the Western nations to rescue persecuted Christians in the Middle East, I would back him wholeheartedly. But when the Pope chooses to act and talk like a leftist politician, then he can expect to be treated like one.”

Francis’ 5-day U.S. schedule — following a stopover in Communist Cuba — is available here.

We share Rep. Gosar’s frustrations regarding Pope Francis as noted with these words from a previous post:

“His provocative mastery of Marxist, anti-capitalist buzzwords is disturbing, with redistribution of wealth one of his frequent themes. Yet he does not deny himself the latest technology as he travels the globe like a jetsetter, frequently tweets and even takes selfies. Last year his tweet, “inequality is the root of social evil,” set off a heated debate in which he was  criticized for increasingly driving a wedge between conservatives and the Catholic Church. Francis previously blasted ‘trickle-down’ economics, a basic tenet of President Reagan’s economic policy as a “crude and naive” theory.”

I salute Congressman Gosar for having the cajones to put his discontent into action. He speaks for many of us, who are not in a position to boycott this pope by walking out or not attending his speech. I believe Pope Benedict was forced out to pave the way for this man.

  2. Dennis O'Brien says:

This third world pope is an unconcealed anti-American regardless of his papal insiders claims to the contrary. He’s insulted American exceptionalism, which he bases on what he calls the “greed of capitalism,” while neglecting to note our unmatched global generosity. He’s a brazen Communist who illegitimately cloaks himself in religiosity. John Allen, who writes for the Catholic Crux website, says in a gross understatement, “there are unmistakable signals that he sees the United States as part of the problem as much as the solution.”

I see this pope as a major conduit for furthering hatred of America as he promotes world-wide Communism. He has no difficulty in altering the basic tenants of Catholicism and tossing aside biblical commands to fit his radical agenda. This man, who I consider the personification of evil, shoulders great responsibility for the decline in American Catholics. Conservatives find themselves unable to square communism with the Church.

I’m a Catholic, and like Rep. Gosar, educated in parochial schools. I have never been so disillusioned by a Pope in my lifetime. Many in my family have simply stopped going to church because he has driven a wedge between the faithful and their faith. I view Pope Francis as a dangerous charlatan.

Bravo Paul Gosar, you represent us so well, once again. As a fellow Catholic as well. For non-Catholics you must know an insider’s observation. When this Pope was elected, we said “Oh crap, a Jesuit. Well, now we know exactly how this is going to go. My parents are rolling in their graves.” You see, Jesuits are generally in academia. Too many are the most fringy leftists you would ever encounter. In their Professorial roles they have a bully pulpit with “young impressionable” as their core audience & adopters. Then, they in turn pass this Socialism off as educated and the Church’s positions. Catholics know what “Jesuit” means. Gosar hit all the nails squarely on the head. Everything he has said is the true voice of genuine Catholics. Benedict had a stellar brain and John Paul compassion. This current iteration should have all Catholics revisiting the “infallibility” of the Pope.

  5. Rob Haney says:

The “peace and justice” liberal ideology of Pope Francis is reflective of most of the Bishops and Cardinals of the Roman Catholic Church who have brought about the “new schism” in the Church. The hierarchy of the Catholic Church has opposed all efforts to enforce our borders and immigration laws. Pope Francis coming here to lecture us on global warming and migration is pathetic. His support of the “Treaty” with Iran is suicidal. I salute Representative Gosar for his courageous stance.

Those fools in the media and peace and justice crowd who are praising the Pope for his left-wing positions remind me of the adoration they bestowed on Obama. The “Hope and Change” campaign of Obama has morphed into the “Peace and Justice ” campaign of the Pope.

The similarity between the liberal Republican Party hierarchy and their conservative base and the Roman Catholic hierarchy and their orthodox base is striking.

    • PV PC says:

No wonder Catholics are leaving the church in droves. This Pope makes a mockery of Catholicism. He says, “Who am I to judge?” as he makes allowances for divorce, abortion and same sex marriage. He disparaged large Catholic families, saying Catholics aren’t required to “breed like rabbits.”

Why be a Catholic when even the Pope deviates from traditional Catholic teachings? He is working on splitting the Church into factions. You can drop your money in your own bank account even with the current low interest rates and get a better return on it than the collection plate brings. Spend your money on your own family’s needs. The church’s wealth is incalculable.

  6. Observer says:

Where was the red carpet for Benjamin Netanyahu when he was invited to address Congress? He was snubbed by the Marxist Obama, but Pope Francis is right up Obama’s alley since they both are committed to gutting freedom and adhere to the Communist doctrine of redistribution of wealth. Francis has hypocritically lectured the capitalistic system is based in greed, tho he resides among priceless treasures.

  7. LEO IN TSN says:

This Pope is taking the low road, no doubt about it, and clergy & ordinary Catholics should publicly oppose his political ways.

HOWEVER, let’s not jump on the “I heart McGosar” bandwagon too quickly. He’s had many years to stand up to obamao and McBoehner, but has hidden in silence. He’s had many years to pull the purse-strings to rein in the tryannical obamao regulators, and has hidden in silence. He’s had many years to stand up to the muslimization of the federal bureacracy, the obamao Cabinet and the 42-Czar shadow gov’t, and has hidden in silence. He has time now to oppose the obamao invasion of America with radical muslim jihadi “refugees” but is nowhere to be seen (or heard).

In other words, on every battle front where his presence might make a difference for US, he has been MIA. But here, in a purely symbolic gesture against a foreign socialist, he is first in front of the cameras – for the little folk back home.

McGosar is just a DC career politician trying to adopt the “Trump-the-media” model of smoke & mirrors. Why won’t he do it for US?

    God bless America.

  8. Marianne says:

Pope Francis is a communist and as such aligns perfectly with his like thinking host, Barack Obama. That might not be popular to say, but truth can often be a bitter pill. The saying if it walks and quacks like a duck, it is a duck, applies to him.

This article, “In Francis Obama finds a ally to amplify his agenda to the public,” exposes the radical basis of their partnership.

Another excellent expose on this Marxist phony passing himself off as a religious mentor is George Will’s “Pope Francis’ fact-free flamboyance.”

We won’t be returning to the church as long as this man is Pope. If that takes too long, we’re prepared to go elsewhere. I’m ashamed to call myself Catholic these days.

  10. Saguaro Sam says:

AZ Gov Doug Ducey and his wife will be front and center in DC to sit in adoration of the Pope.

Are AZ taxpayers footing the bill?

Guess Ducey had to lick McCain’s tasseled loafers for the tickets.
