Jim O’Connor Announces AZGOP Chairmanship Candidacy

During tonight’s (Thursday) LD 23 district meeting, Chairman Jim O’Connor announced his candidacy for the Arizona Republican Party Chairmanship election to be held at the January 28, 2017 AZGOP Statutory meeting.

“I am running to give AZGOP State Committeemen an opportunity to choose a Chairman who will incorporate the grassroots activists’ voices and ideas into the operation of our State Party. I intend to reopen the doors of party headquarters to Republican volunteers and take advantage of their willingness to offer their time, talents, and treasure to the party. I look to orchestrate a model of appropriate behavior from the top down.”

If given the opportunity to serve AZGOP members, O’Connor commits to holding monthly Zoom conference calls with all County Chairs, as well as face-to-face meetings once each quarter. “I pledge,” he said, “to build a more vibrant AZGOP on a foundation of trust, honor, respect, and adherence to party bylaws and the Republican Party Platform.”

O’Connor has been active in our Republican politics for the past 10 years, having served two-year terms as a Member at Large for CD 5 and CD 6. He was elected Chairman of LD 23 in November 2014, and serves on the Executive Guidance Council of the Maricopa County Republican Committee. During this past year, O’Connor spearheaded the effort to renounce the National Popular Vote Compact legislation, which moved through the Arizona State House. As part of that continuing effort, he built a team to educate legislators and PCs statewide about the failings of this foolish idea. The compact, if passed, would subvert the will of the people of Arizona, by mandating that electoral votes go to the winner of the national popular vote, even if it differs from the actual Arizona result.

The most salient example of O’Connor’s effectiveness in building the party and motivating volunteers was his success in working with his district’s Precinct Captains and Area Directors to appoint 135 new Precinct Committeemen in LD 23.

He encourages all newly elected Precinct Committeemen interested in voting in the statutory meeting election to place their names on their District or County ballots for the position of State Committeeman. Only State Committeemen are eligible to vote in the race for State Party Chairman.

What welcome news!! Robert Graham has been a disaster, openly aligned with the squish establishment against conservatives. He deserves to be replaced as state chairman, but who would have thought we’d have the opportunity to replace him with someone of Jim O’Connor’s caliber? I’ll never forget the state meeting where Graham cleared all of the elected committeemen out of the auditorium on a manufactured pretense, only to sneak McCain and Flake in the back stage door along with packing a contingent of McCain backers waving Vietnamese flags in the balcony. Many of the elected delegates booed. Others walked out. Still others of us turned our backs. McCain makes it a point to ignore the state meetings, so it was shocking to see the old phony there. Robert Graham has been hand in glove with McCain and Flake repeatedly attempting to silence conservatives. He’s nothing more than their practiced lackey.

    Best of luck Jim!!

  2. William Heuisler says:

Jim O’Connor is just what we need. Anything we can do down here in Baja Arizona will be done. Go Jim! More to come…

  3. Longtime GOP PC says:

Robert Graham is a McStooge. I will actively work to see him replaced by Jim O’Connor, who is a hardworking, decent and honest man. It a solid bet he won’t lock conservatives out of meetings.

  4. Arizona Conservative Guy says:

My new rule? I will never again support John McCain or anyone who is in his camp. That simple benchmark eliminates Robert Graham right out of the hatch!

  5. Rob Haney says:

I wholeheartedly endorse Jim O’Connor for AZGOP State Chairman. I have known Jim since he first became active in politics which was at least 10 years ago. He is one of the most sincere, hard working, honest individuals I know.

We have had only one disagreement and it turned out he was 100% correct and I was 100% wrong, I have been politically conned by individuals a few times in my life. The worse misjudgment I ever made in this regard was my endorsement of Robert Graham in his first run for state chairman.

  6. Disgusted in Arizona says:

We could not ask for a more suitable and honorable candidate than Jim. His principles and competence are unquestionably what is needed to right the wrongs we have had in our current Party leadership. Jim’s hard work and always putting the PCs first is what will bring back a state and county team spirit that will ensure our state has a strong, active and united Party. McGraham has been detrimental to our state, our Party and needs to go and not to the RNC but to retire from politics and let us get on with saving our great nation. God Bless you Jim!
I will no longer be ‘disgusted’ in Arizona.

Decades ago, Robert Graham would have been a door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesman, pouring a bag of dirt on the living room carpet and wowing the housewife with the mechanics of his machine’s dirt sucking skills and his bogus but sincere seeming smile.

I would gladly re-join the AZGOP if Jim O’Connor became State Chairman. The party left my family so we dropped to Independents.

Here’s three of us backing Jim in this endeavor!
