Boorish grads boo U.S. Ed. Sec. Betsy DeVos

Commencement season brings with it prominent speakers to bestow words of wisdom on graduates as they leave the confines of academia and prepare to make their way in the world. In generations past, the speakers were greeted with cordiality as the eager college seniors looked forward to putting their years of education to good use.

Unfortunately, times have changed. Many students, such as those at U of Calif. Berkeley, are practiced rioters. Twelve previous years of El-Hi have inculcated them with massive doses of liberalism — five days a week, 180 days a year. Rioters are not alone.  There are now a substantial number of “snowflakes,” who react negatively to instruction or issues they disdain, needing safe spaces, soothing music, coloring books, puppies and hot cocoa to comfort them.

They are products of non-competitiveness, where everyone on the team gets a participation award, but there are no actual winners, or conversely, losers. The prospect of hurting a losing competitor’s feelings is too unbearable to comprehend. Graduates who are unable to speak grammatically correct English are indicative of the lack of time spent on communication skills. What American History is taught has been given a new slant along with factual revisionism. Americans are not world leaders who live in freedom, granted by a masterfully crafted Constitution that invokes a Creator. It is an aggressor nation that oppresses its citizens and exploits the environment.

Graduates are not likely to favor capitalism over communism, because they view the former as exploitive, though they have no real grasp on the issues. Many of them voted for Socialist Bernie Sanders. They refer to politicians they don’t like as “Hitler,” lacking any understanding of the atrocities committed by the Nazi Third Reich.

It is with this backdrop that U. S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, was scheduled to give the commencement address at Bethune-Cookman University — a historically black university in Daytona Beach, Florida on Wednesday.

DeVos was greeted with loud boos and turned backs as she reached the lectern to deliver her commencement remarks. As she spoke, she was booed, shouted at, and met with calls of “Go home!” from students and audience members. Minutes into her speech, the president of BCU, Edison Jackson, stopped her to address the disruptive students. Jackson said degrees would be mailed to students if their behavior continued. “Choose which way you want to go,” he said.

DeVos began again, but the toothless warning went unheeded as the boos increased.  She addressed some of the opposition to her speaking at the black university, asking for those critical of her to hear her out, voicing the Trump administration’s support for black colleges and universities. “We support you and we will continue to support you,” she said.

Business Insider reports that the weeks leading up to her speech were marked by vocal opposition by students, civil rights organizations, and Florida education groups, who claimed DeVos has no understanding of the history and significance of historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs)

Parents often go into debt to provide the college education they believe to be the key to their children’s successful futures. But instead of being educated, they are being indoctrinated and propagandized by mostly leftwing unionist instructors. This is where their National Education Association (NEA*) dues go. The American Federation of Teachers (AFT*) has the same agenda. American children spend more time each day with these agents of the left than they do their own parents.

On Tuesday, petitions carrying the names of over 8,000 students were delivered to university leaders urging them to “disinvite” DeVos from addressing the commencement ceremony.

Victimhood is a status graduating college seniors — of any background or ethnicity —-should ditch. It clashes with caps and gowns.

I frequently tune in to the Dennis Prager show on “The Patriot” 960 AM. This is a topic he often discusses.
Here is but one of his many columns on the topic of the disintegration of higher education.

  2. State Delegate says:

One does not have to be a minority (ethnic, religious, racial) to understand that there have been injustices and suffering. Although no group should forget their history, continuing to wallow in past discriminations and saying no one else can understand them, serves no one well. Opportunity is abundant for all in the USA. All it takes is the will to apply yourself to educational pursuits and better your own life and that of your children and theirs. Scolarships are widely available for those who apply themselves. These so-called scholars engaging in this insulting behavior directed at Secretary DeVos are themselves guilty of discrimination.

Your comment hits the heart of the problem, but there is also the fact that manners are all but gone with too many younger people today, educated or not. Language is coarse, even a semblance of modesty is gone, there are no taboo topics, with the most personal matters and photos posted to their Facebook pages. Celebrities have driven this lack of class with their outrageous behaviors. Parents want to be friends with their kids rather than risk parenting them and having junior get ticked at the imposition of any restrictions.

Add to these the fact that the dimpled darlings are learning nothing of substance in school, unless global warming…er…climate change and recycling count, and you see where we are headed. It’s a repeat of the Romans lulling the populace with bread, beer and circuses to distract them from the calamities. Their once magnificent civilization collapsed in ruin.

I saw the photographs and some video taken during this commencement—disrespectful thugs and thugettes.
These are the people who will go to the top of the list when it comes to hiring, especially at government agencies.

I’d like these college graduates to sit down and take a written test on the history of Everything Black.

So it seems that it is A-OK for them to be racist and rude.

That’s what we get for giving people free stuff, including a college education.

    Did they major in twerking?

And the story out of Penn State regarding the horrific, torturous death of a fraternity pledge—-if you have not read the timeline—12 HOURS– of this young man’s painful demise, please be warned that it might make you ill. The coroner’s report reveals that this young man suffered greatly and for an extended period of time. Most of it caught on surveillance cameras and cell phones. What they did to that young man should earn them a depraved heart murder conviction.

    Meanwhile, in seemingly another universe:
Adelphi University on Long Island NY—-
Their lacrosse team ran on to the playing field carrying an American flag, with the loudspeakers playing part of a Trump speech:

“In all of our cities and all of our towns, I make this promise. We will make America strong again. We will make America proud again. We will make America safe again. And we will make America great again.”

I too saw video of this disgraceful display of ignorance and it made me sick. Also shown was an overly animated young black kid waving his arms, muttering, looking militant being escorted out of the auditorium by police. He was scary. Why so unraveled over a “government” employee trying to help in educating young people in this country. Is it sexism? Racism? Disdain for education? Not willing to listen or understand the other side? Colleges and universities are madhouses of Progressive jackassery. This is very dangerous.

On another topic, this short video (1:49) is keeping me sane after the craziness of the radicals and their insane behavior.

Florida seems to have a whole lot of racism going on.

A few days ago, in Broward County, FL. an elderly white female who was walking her two small dogs in the condominium development where she lives dared to ask a large group of interlopers to turn down their “music”.

Take a look at what was posted to youtube.

This woman has a history of serious physical ailments, including a recently implanted cardiac stent. She was picked up, body slammed to the ground and then thrown in a swimming pool.

The large crowd which caused this disturbance did Not live there.
Yet they felt entitled and empowered to trash the place and assault a vulnerable adult white female.

The person who uploaded one of the many videos of this incident claims to be a college student.

This is what we pay for.

    Abe Lincoln was a fool.

    Just google:
elderly woman body slammed and thrown into pool in Florida.
You will find multiple stories, still photos, and uploads to various sites.

This incident could have very easily killed this woman, and the trauma she suffered will continue to take its toll on her.

As a moderate leaning toward a progressive worldview, I must agree that the behavior of these students is not acceptable on any level. Civility matters, and those who refuse to listen to alternate opinions in a respectful manner fail to understand the commitment to free speech that makes our country so great. I might add that many on the extreme right or left are no better in this respect, but that is a subject for another day. Just my 2 cents.
