AZ AG Brnovich sues Board of Regents over tuition hikes

On Friday Attorney General Mark Brnovich filed a lawsuit against the Arizona Board of Regents (“ABOR”) for dramatically and unconstitutionally increasing the price of base tuition and mandatory fees at Arizona’s public universities by more than 300 percent since 2003. The Arizona Constitution requires that “the university and all other state educational institutions shall be open to students of both sexes, and the instruction furnished shall be as nearly free as possible.”

“Every Arizonan dreams of being able to send their kids to college,” Brnovich stated. “Within the last 15 years, Arizona went from having some of the most affordable public universities to having some of the most expensive. We believe the Board of Regents needs to be held accountable and answer tough questions for Arizona’s skyrocketing tuition rates.”

The State alleges that ABOR has adopted unconstitutional tuition-setting policies, has abandoned its duty to serve as a check on the university presidents, and has ceased deriving tuition rates from the actual cost of instruction. According to the lawsuit, ABOR has misinterpreted its “nearly free” mandate to mean whatever the market rate is for peer institutions and made itself as the arbiter of “affordability” for Arizona’s students and families.

Intertwined with these price hikes, ABOR has also refused to comply with Arizona law prohibiting state subsidies for students “without lawful immigration status.” ABOR is causing the illegal expenditure of public monies and the failure to collect tuition in direct contravention of clear and established Arizona law

This report listing Michael Crow as the highest paid public university president in the country in 2016 should turn every Arizona taxpayer’s stomach and doubly inflame every parent with a child attending ASU. Liberal indoctrination carries a high price tag.

  2. Saguaro Sam says:

It has been reported that between the years 2009-2014, the State has paid out $854,000 to settle NINE lawsuits mostly regarding discrimination (of the racial; sexual, and age varities).

Consider that during this same time period, UofA settled 8 lawsuits for a Total of $114,000.
And the State paid $54,000 to settle lawsuits at NAU during those years.

Remember when Playboy magazine had ASU on their ‘top party schools’ list for many years?

One would think that the campus police would be deserving of a better salary instead of the perks and benefits going to the stuffed shirt.

Speaking of presidents, recall that several days ago, President Trump announced that he had given one million dollars of his personal money to the various relief agencies assisting in Texas after Hurricane Harvey.

Now, yesterday we have the 5 former US Presidents posing for photo ops after having formed the “One America Appeal”.
This “Appeal” is asking for money to be donated to help Hurricane Harvey victims.
Interesting that all of the former presidents are very wealthy, but did not pony-up any of their money.

With Clinton involved, this has definite shades of the Clinton Foundation, which was supposed to pull Haiti from the ashes of a weather catastrophe in 2010. Haiti has never been rebuilt.
Even though the Clintons allegedly raised billions of dollars.

    • Frankly Speaking says:

Trusting any of the Clintons with anything, let alone vast sums of money, is beyond foolish. They are all crooks, including Chelsea who is tightly wound in the Clinton Foundation corrupt money making machine. Imagine the tainted gene pool Chelsea’s kids have on both sides of their family. Father Mark’s parents Marjorie Margolies and Edward Mezvinsky are both democrat crooks, also. And what a surprise. the now divorced couple are longtime friends and allies of Bill and Hillary who wouldn’t know the truth if it hit them in the eye.

Marjorie is a women’s lib activist and former Congresswoman from Pennsylvania who served just a single term in the mid 90’s after her deciding vote for the Clinton budget cost her her seat. She ran but lost in the following Dem primary, despite solid support from both Clintons. Her former husband, Edward Mezvinsky, served two terms in Congress from Iowa — and also five years in prison after being convicted of fraud in 2001.

Genetics play an important role in who we are on a variety of levels. Chelsea and Mark’s two kids are going to have to work double duty to keep themselves honest since their entire family tree including all of its branches is tainted.
