Yielding to REDsforED Socialist demands emboldens them & Updates

Arizona #REDSforED teachers’ walkout continued through day five on Tuesday, with the strikers still claiming their self-serving actions are “for the children.” Parents are prepared for more of the same today.

Arizona Educators United which organized the thuggish actions is full of demands, Though some of its more revealing pages have been removed from its site the agenda which reverberates with words such as “collectivism” and “solidarity” that would make Lenin and Marx proud, boldly identifies itself as “an open platform that empowers individuals and groups to organize for progressive causes.”

The latest schemes include a ballot measure to enshrine their liberalism into law and a plan to tax the rich at ever higher rates to fund their increasingly disreputable demands. Like so many liberals, they forget that “the rich” supply jobs that raise up individuals and benefit families. They are the people who took risks and worked long hours to realize their dreams of entrepreneurship. They are those we should aspire to emulate. Liberals view them with contempt.

Noah Karvelis a 23-year-old hip-hop music enthusiast and Bernie Sander‘s campaign worker, has morphed into a leader of the teacher’s group, which explains its obvious leftist lurch. This is a recent Karvelis tweet.

The Washington Free Beacon runs an informative exposé, titled,Bipartisan’ Arizona Teacher Protest is Led by Democratic Operative. On April 25, SRAZ posted AZ teachers’ strike leader admits “teaching is political.”

Teachers unions, funded to the tune of $millions by dues paying teachers are notoriously left-wing, almost exclusively supporting liberal candidates and causes.*

On Friday, the Goldwater Institute advised Arizona school districts that the teacher walkout was illegal and warned that if the schools did not “resume educating children immediately; they risk legal action by parents and students.”

But AZ GOP Chairman Jonathan Lines waffles, urging support of the Gov. Ducey’s 20% pay increase magically implemented “without raising taxes” for the striking teachers who have held Arizona students hostage for a solid week. He deserves an F for effort. Lines also runs a reveal of Randi Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), a position reportedly paying over $500,000 yearly. Weingarten is a known Democrat operative who gave an impassioned speech introducing Dem presidential nominee Hillary Clinton at both AFT’s 2016 convention and the Democrat’s national convention. She is coming to Arizona to rally teachers against the 20% pay hike.  They were cheerfully dancing and playing musical instruments at the state Capitol Tuesday.

“The message is very clear,” Lines naively states. “Democrats are using our teachers as political pawns. Our children are the ones who lose in this partisan stunt.”

Democrats are not using teachers as pawns. They are willingly washing one another’s backs. What would possess Lines, the father of eleven, to support the Ducey plan of acquiescing to the increasingly wild union demands?

Wed. May 2, 2018:

#REDSforED teachers lie

The poor excuses for Arizona teachers have reneged on their promise to return to their jobs Thursday, now saying they “will call in sick.” Today marks day six of holding the students they claim to care about as hostages.

“Sick” is what many parents feel — along with betrayed, frustrated and distrustful of anything the marauding teachers do or say. Extending the school year to make up for lost instruction time impacts negatively on many of the estimated 800,000 students and families, who have long-planned family vacations and have purchased tickets to travel based on what they regarded as the scheduled last day of school. Others have paid for summer camp. Older students leaving for college, military service or with church mission plans need their transcripts. The self-serving, liberal unionist teachers don’t give a rip, but expect loyalty, nonetheless. Many, protesting and dancing at the state Capitol, are blithely unaware how badly they’ve burned bridges with students, their families and the general public, none of whom could walk off their jobs and expect to have them when they return after first demanding 20 percent raises and now wanting more.

The Hillary Clinton endorsing Arizona Republic headlines Thursday’s lead editorial, “#RedForEd offers lesson in civics,” quoting liberal Democrat state Sen. Steve Farley, who is now running for governor. The week long shenanigans are indeed a lesson, though not in civics.  We are witnessing extreme acts of intimidation by contracted teachers who have morphed into unionist hooligans led by leftist thugs.

REDSforEd teachers teach students two important lessons:

  1. Students are easily held hostage and provide a useful means to an end. Kids are tools in the left’s arsenal.
  2. Mob rule trumps contractual obligations for the members of the far-left Teachers unions, as Gov. Ducey and the legislature caved to their raucous demands

  1. East Valley Conservative says:

As a parent, I also have a demand. It’s a simple one. I would like to see teacher’s salaries tied to student learning. Most of today’s teachers would fail miserably. They have replaced history with revisionism, have eliminated anything that heralds our Constitution, and replaced study time promoting trendy and disputed global warming and recycling. Today’s kids are abysmally ignorant of geography, knowledge of the contributions of western civilization, literature, basic math skills and now the educrats have even removed cursive from being taught, so our kids can’t even sign their name unless parents supplement the loser schools. Even those from faith based families are are indoctrinated to believe that homosexual marriage is simply another type of family arrangement. There is no good or evil. Moral relativism reigns. How can we expect our coming generations to protect our liberties and freedom when they have no idea why they are superior to others systems of government? Public schools and those who run them are mostly far left and engage in propagandizing rather than teaching. Wake up, American parents. Our kids are being programmed to let Socialism take over. There’s a stunning example:

I’ll go you one better, E.V. Conservative – I want to see ADMINISTRATOR’s salaries tied to student performance. Nothing else will suffice.

  2. Retired in Masa says:

Teachers have overwhelming public support in their quest for better p[ay and classroom conditions. You can rail against this settlement all you want but the outcome will not change. When the dust settles the public will aways support teachers, law enforcement personnel and firefighters.

Incidentally, while I seldom agree with your daily rants I must compliment you on your superb writing skills. I just wish you weren’t angry and hostile all the time. Just my two cents.

    • Observer says:

Unfortunately, there’s a lot to be “angry and hostile” about these days. Specifically in this instance, our kids are being educationally deprived whether school is in session or the teachers have abandoned them. SRAZ is simply responding and giving voice to many of us who agree. As to the “teachers, law enforcement personnel and firefighters” you say will always be supported, let’s not gloss over the fact that they ALL belong to powerful unions that provide healthy retirements after 20 years of employment. My brother-in-law was a firefighter. Beginning with DAY ONE of being hired, he could recite how many days he had until retirement. This is not a joke. He had it all figured out and could rattle off the exact number of days he had left. He was “vested” in the plan after 10 years of working 24 on, 48 off. During his off time, he and some of his fellow firefighters, began a very profitable local sideline company. When they retired at young ages, they dissolved the company and he and my sister moved to Hawaii.

    • Observer says:

Forgot to add, Hawaii is not a place to live if you’re cash strapped.

    • Conservative Since Birth says:

      To Retired:
You’re thinking of the old days when teachers didn’t mix education and politics. This is what’s going on today:
“The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation.” Adolf Hitler

  3. Conservative Since Birth says:

San Francisco billionaire, Tom Steyer, has targeted Arizona to get rid of Ducey and put Democrats in office. He has targeted five states – all with Republican governors and has “contributed” more money than George Soros to “the cause.”

    From the Arizona Daily Independent:
Karvelis has, according to his curriculum vitae, taught for approximately 4 years. He took the position at Tres Rios in 2016, after leaving a job Urbana, Illinois. Arizona Department of Education records show that Karvleis only holds a provisional teaching license:

    NOAH J KARVELIS
Provisional Arts Education, PreK-12 Music Start Date: 2016 – July Expire Date: 2019 – July Valid – 4915302

Deficiencies – A Certification requirement which must be completed within a specified timeframe.

Selected Certificate Deficiency Code Deficiency Description Certification Notes*
Provisional Arts Education, PreK-12 Music AZCON Arizona Constitution Completion of a course or passing the appropriate examination on the provisions and principles of the Arizona Constitution is required.

    Provisional Arts Education, PreK-12 Music
USCON United States Constitution Completion of a course or passing the appropriate examination on the provisions and principles of the United States Constitution is required.

Karvelis is more activist than teacher.

Just like “March for our Lives,” sponsored by leftists everywhere including Steven Speilberg, Oprah and George Clooney – each giving $500,000 for gun control – the teachers’ “protest” is about as ‘organic’ as Nancy Pelosi’s facial and body work. Lots of money spent on both.

    • Kent says:

Leftist billionaires like Steyer, Soros and Zuckerberg always come to the aid of liberals and their causes. It’s as certain as day follows night.

  4. Saguaro Sam says:

    But NOT Arizona:

    https://thegoldwater.com/news/24813-Texas-and-Six-Other-GOP-Governed-States-Sue-Federal-Government-to-End-DREAMer-Program

    Wonder Why Not?

Will McCain continue to run Arizona when he is “retired”?
When he is 6 foot under?
    Looks that way for now.

  5. Saguaro Sam says:

    And, right on cue

University of Arizona researchers and psychologists want parents to “relate” to their children by doing this:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-5683721/Psychologists-urge-parents-listen-Ariana-Grande-Drake-closer-children.html

    Noise.

  6. Ajo Joe says:

It’s time , actually past time, to admit that teachers are not our friends and certainly are not concerned about the students they contracted to teach. Walking out on students for a week or more is not showing dedication o either the students or their job.

If I were in charge, they’d be given a warning to be back at work in the morning or their contracts would be null and void and they’d be out of work. Reagan did it with the air traffic controllers and Gov. Ducey could have done it also, if he was not worried about the next election.

Ducey made a colossal mistake in agreeing to their demands. That did nothing but encouraged them to up the ante. Now they want tax increases to pay even more for the miserable job they do. Teens today have no understanding of American history. Try discussing basic facts with one. I love my grandkids, but this teacher’s escapade has made me more aware that our family’s dimpled darlings are as dumb as the neighbor kids that I disdained for being ignorant. It’s not the gene pools, folks. It’s the lack of hard information that they are presented with. I’m talking basics here. Things that we were taught and retained, but our grandkids have never been taught so they have nothing to retain.

  7. Patriot Dad says:

Just read the “Update” and couldn’t agree more. The teachers are acting like spoiled brats disregarding their contractual obligations and wanting the rest of us to give them our seal of approval.

I despise their antics. If they don’t like teaching, they can find another line of work. Many people change careers. They could make more money in corporate America, if they had an MBA. They could become surgeons if they put in the years of medical school, residency and internship.

Most of the people I knew who went into education, were not the best college students and they were looking for a job that gave them the maximum time off, which teaching surely does. They do know enough not to put their faith in public schools for their own children. Three of our neighbors who are teachers each send their own kids to parochial or charter schools. That speaks loud and clear enough.

  8. Ginger says:

This will no doubt be considered a politically incorrect statement, but I’ve observed that many of tho Red for ED protesters are grossly overweight. They either eat a lot or make poor dietary choices. I’ve observed them on TV but also in my neighborhood stores or waving signs on street corners..

    • Conservative Since Birth says:

And how about those tattoos! What a motley bunch.

      • Maggie says:

Agreed. Nice professional image to display to impressionable youn g students. Although tattoos have strangely become mainstream as our society has coarsened, they still scream “trash” to me.

And don’t they look great as the inked person ages an the faded tat becomes blurred and enmeshed in the folds of crepey skin? Looks really hot!

I couldn’t help but notice the two Red for Ed teachers on the front page this morning. Both had what looked to be professionally streaked hair. Impoverished people can’t afford such luxuries.

  9. Capt. Marvel says:

More evidence of the terrific job teachers are doing. Kids can’t even tell the time on an analogue clock. We shouldn’t be giving these people paltry 20 % raises. They obviously deserve much more!!
