Historic economic expansion ignored by Trump-hating, leftist Arizona Republic

Sensational economic news gets the coverage it deserves in the New York Post —  a publication founded in 1801 by Alexander Hamilton, the first Secretary of the U.S. Treasury.

The Post’s Editorial Board made this acknowledgement Monday:

President Trump has now gotten the US economic expansion to outlast any other in modern history.

As of Monday, growth has rolled along for 121 months straight, starting in June 2009. The now-second-longest expansion ran from March 1991 to March 2001. The new record is also over twice the 58 months of the average expansion since 1980.

All of which means that, even with the weakness of the growth for most of the Obama era, the economy was overdue for a dip when Trump took office. Yet it has instead remained pretty strong, expanding 2.9% in 2018 and at an annual 3.1% for the first quarter of 2019.

Unemployment has fallen steadily, too, to its lowest level in 50 years: In May, the seasonally adjusted rate was 3.4%, down from 5.1% in January 2017. Job openings in April topped the number of unemployed by the widest margin ever, and the tight labor market has fueled wage hikes.

Trump’s deregulation and tax cuts, each a stark reverse of Obama policies, changed the course. As Bankrate senior economist Mark Hamrick told The Post, the president unleashed America’s “animal spirits,” boosting the stock market and consumer confidence. (The S&P 500 and the Dow hit record highs Monday, on news of a truce in the US-China trade war.)

And growth has “lifted all boats,” notes Hamrick. Despite the Democratic line, the “1%” are far from the only ones to gain. Federal Reserve data show that pay hikes these past three years surged faster for the poorest quarter of workers (4.4%) than for the richest (3.2%).

Blue-collar employment is also up big since January 2017: 657,000 new construction jobs and 484,000 more in manufacturing. And joblessness among blacks fell from 7.7% in January 2017 to 6.2% in May.

Nothing lasts forever, but when the economy does finally turn south, it’s well worth remembering which policies delivered the record results.

In an in-tandem report in the same edition, titled,US economy marks longest expansion in American history,” we are doubly treated to the news the Hillary Clinton-endorsing Arizona Republic newspaper is loath to report. The NY Post endorsed “rookie” Trump, described as having “electrified the public” in the 2016 Primary, making no endorsement in the General Election.

Anyone familiar with the leftward bent of the Arizona Repukelic knows better than to expect any accolades for President Trump. He could cure cancer and still be derided. Not a single person I know still subscribes to this unconcealed arm of the Democrat Party, trying to pass itself off as a newspaper.

    IMPORTANT, RIGHT NOW.

    Please PRAY.
VP Pence’s airplane, on the way to New Hampshire, is experiencing an emergency. Circling Delaware at this time, with a in-flight fuel tanker very close by. Very low altitude.

The bad guys (Many) are determined.
Did you see Bernie Sanders “campaign ad” depicting an assassination attempt on President Trump?

We are at WAR. Good vs. Evil.
    You have NO idea.

Please pray to God for protection over President Trump; his family; his Loyal team including VP Pence, and our U.S. Military.
    Thanks.

According to Fox News, this doesn’t sound disastrous or like anything requiring prayerful intervention.

“Something came up that required the @VP to remain in Washington, DC,” Pence spokeswoman Alyssa Farah tweeted. “It’s no cause for alarm. He looks forward to rescheduling the trip to New Hampshire very soon.”
A senior White House official told reporters the situation is not health-related for Pence or President Trump and is not related to national security.

Finally, some good news from Gov. Doug (Mc)Ducey,

Breitbart News reports he announced this morning he has directed the Arizona Commerce Authority to cancel all financial incentives for Nike’s planned manufacturing plant here in Goodyear, Arizona.

Ducey’s decision came in response to a Wall Street Journal report stating former NFL anthem-protester and Nike pitchman Colin Kaepernick pressured Nike to pull its America-themed 4th of July sneakers featuring the “Betsy Ross” flag because he and others found the design to be offensive. “Nike has chosen not to release the Air Max 1 Quick Strike Fourth of July as it featured an old version of the American flag,” a company spokesperson said in a statement to CNN of the decision.

Next order of business, the Guv needs to expedite deportation of illegal aliens who insist on flying the Mexican flag.

Seems that neither Kaepernick nor Nike has any problem, though, with the pennies they pay for children in foreign countries to work in Nike sweatshops.

Excellent editorial from the New York Post. It’s something we would never see here in Arizona. The local newspaper’s editorial page editor Phil Boas is so contemptible he actually led the daily repetitive charge against popular Sheriff Joe Arpaio, his own father-in-law!!

It was done in concert with the cartoonist (now fired for lack of funds to pay him), the far left columnists and the editorial board he controls.

What did we get instead? Paul Penzone, a liberal Democrat who right after being elected, actually referred to illegal aliens as “guests.” Penzone’s campaign was funded with $3 million by Socialist George Soros.

Hmm. Ducey veering right? He must be gearing up for his next political office after he’s termed out as governor. Which member of congress will he challenge?

  6. jake sez says:

This shows how stupid both Kaepernick and NIKE are in this argument. The flag being referred to is the “DON’T TRED ON ME” Gadsen flag not the Betsey Ross flag. The Gadsen flag is used by many who feel they have been wronged by the establishment. It first came into use in the 1700’s against the British. Not in a fight to keep slavery.
