Daniel McCarthy: Exodus’ golden calf revisited

President Trump’s unequivocal support of Sen. Martha McSally is not enough for gullible Republicans seeking nirvana

Arizona Republicans with conservative credentials have been finding their email in-boxes filled with praiseful paeans to a never-before-heard-of challenger to incumbent Sen. Martha McSally, the former two-term congresswoman and sole Republican representing our state in the U.S. Senate. There is even a website the novice candidate with zero credentials and no political experience has up and running demanding that we “Demand” him. It would be tempting to brush this arrogant amateur off like lint on a pinstriped suit sleeve, but there is the enticement/excitement factor that mimics a teen crush. The problem is the teens in this case are mostly senior citizen GOP activists who should be wiser than to fall for a swaggering fast-talker.

These folks are all desperately seeking perfection, an entity which doesn’t exist in politics. They are willing to go for the untried and unknown, hoping he will be the Moses to lead them out of what they view as the political wilderness. The biblical account in Exodus reminds us even Moses’ followers, frustrated when they thought he spent too much time on Mount Sinai receiving the Ten Commandments, ended up erecting and worshiping a golden calf, ultimately suffering the consequences for their faithlessness.

The senate makeup is crucial. Republicans — there are 51 — currently hold a slim lead over 47 Democrats (including 2 Independents who caucus with the Dems). This sliver-like margin is not one we can afford to risk. Senate votes are needed to confirm President Trump’s federal judicial nominees, including to the exceedingly important U.S. Supreme Court.

President Trump has enthusiastically endorsed Sen. Martha McSally, a fact lost on those who claim to support him but have fallen in lockstep with their golden calf.

With the magnitude of this race in mind, SRAZ is reposting our earlier post, “Daniel McCarthy’s challenge to Sen. McSally fulfills Kelly’s dream.”

The Democrat in this race is leftist, Second Amendment enemy, anti-Trumper Mark Kelly, husband of former U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords. The couple count the Obama’s among their friends. But don‘t look for that dreaded “D” word on his website. Taking his cue from Kyrsten Sinema’s senate campaign, “Democrat” is nowhere to be found. Still the Dems are pinning their hopes on him to bring the long held Republican senate seat into the Democrat column. Kelly’s supporters — open border, socialist multi-billionaire George Soros among them, have filled Kelly’s campaign coffers to overflowing.

According to Federal Election Commission disclosures Kelly has significantly out raised every candidate for the U.S. Senate in the entire nation — even longtime senators and those in leadership positions.

Daniel McCarthy’s supporters are still mired in, and consumed by, their loathing of John McCain. He is gone. Even McCain’s loyal senate sidekick Lindsey Graham has modified his stance and has become supportive of Pres. Trump. We all need to move forward. The past is behind us.

Pledge your support to help Republican Sen. Martha McSally retain the crucial Arizona senate seat. It matters.

Spot on, SRAZ!! And the biblical analogy couldn’t be more appropriate. I’ve been stunned by the foolish short-sightedness of those who should realize that McCarthy is doing nothing more than splitting the vote in a tough contest and ensuring Arizona will have two democrats in the Senate.

    • Doc says:

Hhhmmm…I seem to recall a similar “bait-n-switch” scam in recent years by a Mojave Green Rattler who, to our relief, is now no longer with us. This McCarthy fella, who purports to be “a TRUE conservative” is probably connected in a “roundabout” way to the hypocrite Spaceball mark giffords…

      …just sayin’…

      • Clementine says:

Many rational conservatives are suspicious of McCarthy for the very reason you mention. He is hell bent on handing this senate seat (which he hasn’t a prayer of winning), over to the democrats.

Did you happen to see his video where he is sitting in a chair and garbling his words? It would be laughable if not so pathetic.

  2. Trevor says:

I agree with this 100 percent, no one is perfect of course but we have to support Senator McSally, also Andy Biggs the next Freedom Caucus chairman is 100 percent behind Senator McSally as well. I’ll take those endorsements any day of the week

  3. State Committeeman says:

I’ve been on the receiving end of those inane emails. Some are merely repetitions of others using the exact language with different senders. It’s become a round robin chain letter. I know these folks and have lost all respect for them. Their inability to think rationally on such a crucial issue is shocking..

  4. Michael Schmitz says:

We can thank McCain acolyte Gov Ducey for making this a close race by appointing McSally to the Senate seat vacated by McCain’s passing after she lost the other Senate seat to Sinema.

    This is all by design.

    • Trevor says:

A vote for McCarthy is a vote for the gun grabbing spaceman.

      • Patriot Mom says:

You couldn’t have stated the truth better!

I can’t help but think he’s a ringer, put in place by the dems to siphon votes from the Republican incumbent Sen. Martha McSally.

I watched his “Demand” me video and nearly gagged.

      • Michael Schmitz says:

My point is Ducey could have appointed a fighter type patriot like Biggs or Gosar, not a loser.

    • Army Of One says:

Senator Martha McSally served well over two decades in the U.S. Air Force, and retired as a full Colonel. She is the first female fighter pilot to fly in combat and first to command a fighter squadron in combat in U.S. history.

Inexperienced and undereducated,(no college) but endowed with a massive ego, Daniel McCarthy has never served his country, but wants to be in charge of running it. McSally graduated with honors from the US Air Force Academy and ably served our country in combat. She’s a fighter…not a braggart.

    • Casper says:

      Michael Schmitz:
You have an odd idea of what constitutes as “loser.” Many accomplished people have lost elections to lesser opponents or circumstances.
Abraham Lincoln was defeated in his initial race for the Illinois State Legislature and the also the first time he ran for Congress. He lost his first congressional election, but won the next time he ran, and lost again following that victory. He was defeated twice when he campaigned for the U.S. Senate. After decades, Lincoln finally won the presidency. Following your “logic,“ that made one of the most revered US Presidents a loser.

I attended grade school and middle school in Illinois and this American history lesson was ingrained in us.

    • Not A McCainiac says:

Regardless of his failings, (eg: granting a 20% raise to striking teachers who were led on their weeklong march by a self identified socialist) Ducey is not looking to give away a Republican held senate seat to a leftist Democrat. What is the “design” you allude to?

  5. East Valley Conservative says:

This short-range thinking is disappointing on the part of those who are experienced political activists and should know better. I see nothing good coming out of this support of an unknown entity equipped with nothing more than an ego and bulging bank account which he brags about. He wants to buy this election, but can’t compete with multi-billionaire George Soros, who‘s funneling millions though his stealth network to leftist Mark Kelly.

McCarthy is only 34. He has plenty of time to get some credentials by running for the state legislature or other office. If he tries matching a multi-billionaire by gambling on a political career for which he has no experience, he’ll quickly deplete his resources and Kelly will still win due to McCarthy’s reprehensible vote splitting tactics. It’s crucial that Trump supporting Conservatives unite behind our incumbent Republican Sen. Martha McSally who has Pres. Trump’s endorsement.

  6. Tanner says:

Heard him speak last night in St. Johns. I doubt McSally or Kelley even know we exist up here in northeastern AZ.

    • Observer says:

McSally is hard at work in the senate.

McCarthy has all the time in the world. He should have used it prepping for his announcement video. He couldn’t read his notes properly, stumbling and mispronouncing words frequently. It needed to be a “do over” from the opening. If this is an indication of what he thinks is a good first look to entice potential voters, he’s sorely in need of a seasoned manager.

  7. Proud Deplorable says:

The leftwing local newspaper has already begun nibbling at McSally’s ankles. It will rev up as the election nears. Expect EJ Montini and Laurie Roberts to begin slamming her and then the editorial board will go into full assault mode. The bald Mr. Gabby Giffords aka Mark Kelly, is their guy. The newspaper never protested the close relationship between its beloved John McCain or Hillary Clinton (who it endorsed for president!!) and Socialist George Soros, so the fact that Soros’ Act Blue is fundraising for Mark “Giffords” Kelly won’t bother any of them a bit.

  8. Longtime GOP PC says:

If Mark Kelly wins this senate seat, Daniel McCarthy will have to move out of state for setting such a debacle in motion by challenging an incumbent Republican. His name will rightfully be mud!!

    • MAGA Hat Man says:

McCarthy’s name already is ‘Mud” among rational Trump supporting Republicans who view the big picture in its full context.

Following this guy McCarthy is like leaping lemming-like into the Grand Canyon and thinking that’s a wise move before the irreversible final splat.

      • Maggie says:

President Trump supports Martha McSally. That’s good enough for me!

Also RNC Chairman Ronna McDaniel fully supports Martha McSally and has asked Daniel McCarthy not to run. But McCarthy’s ego outranks his respect for Pres. Trump, and the Republican party leader, both of whom understand the damage his entry will ultimately do to the balance of power in the senate.

  9. Braveheart says:

The single sentence to commit to memory is this:

  10. 1776 says:

Yep, “Demand Daniel” Is just the way to undermine the President. Make McSally look weak by supporting a primary challenger. Give the Dems a head start in the general election. Lose the Senate just in time for the Dems to stop a conservative replacement for Ginsburg. Google “Dems target Arizona” to see what DD is helping to do already:
