Current and former Republican politicians are mysteriously crawling over one another to give their endorsements to a newly minted Democrat-turned-Republican candidate for Maricopa County Assessor. This under-the-radar, but important office deals with property tax evaluations for nearly 2 million parcels and requires utmost integrity.
In early October the bombshell broke that Assessor Paul Petersen was arrested, facing multiple state and federal charges in connection with a fraudulent adoption and money laundering scheme stretching from the Marshall Islands to Arizona, Utah and even Arkansas. He recently pleaded guilty and faces lengthy prison time.
Since then the office has been in the capable hands of Maricopa County Assessor Eddie Cook, a trusted, conservative community leader, technology expert and former member of the Gilbert Town Council where he served for nearly a decade. Cook was unanimously appointed by the Board of Supervisors as Maricopa County Assessor over 10 other GOP applicants. He is restoring trust and accountability to the office, eliminating waste and saving taxpayers money. Take time to read his priorities and accomplishments.
Conservative Eddie Cook, the recipient of a national award for improving efficiencies, is being challenged by lawyer Rodney Glassman, a lifelong Democrat operative who opportunistically switched party affiliation, hoping to launch a higher level career from this post. He has run for and applied for appointment to numerous positions as success eluded him.
Glassman has an unlikely background for someone seeking political office as a Republican and even embracing the term “conservative.” He worked as a D.C. staffer for radical leftist Congressman Raul Grijalva. He also ran for the U.S. Senate from Arizona as a Democrat. Additionally, Rodney Glassman was a candidate for state chairman of the Arizona Democrat Party, hoping to guide the statewide strategy for defeating Republicans. This post was one in a long string of offices he sought and lost. After magically recasting himself in 2018 he ran as a Republican for the Arizona Corporation Commission and lost again, just as he did as a Democrat carrying the UFCW Union endorsement.
Integrity is not on Glassman’s radar. He hosted a fundraiser for a member of the Board of Supervisors who would be tasked with selecting Paul Peterson’s replacement. The invitation can be seen here.
A genuine Republican, Eddie Cook continues to amass support and has won the endorsement of Arizona Congressman and former State Senate President Andy Biggs, chairman of the House Freedom Caucus.
This is an important election. It’s crucial to retain Eddie Cook as Assessor. Don’t be conned by the biggest signs placed by wealthy political changeling Rodney Glassman, desperate for a win, whose intent is to buy his way into office…any office.
