Honoring America’s fallen heroes: Memorial Day 2021

No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave.”

– President Calvin Coolidge, August 2, 1923 – March 4, 1929

Graves of America’s military heroes can be accessed through Veterans Legacy Memorial website.

Memorial Day became a federal holiday in 1971, during the presidency of Richard Nixon, who rose to the rank of Commander in the U.S. Navy.

1.3 million Americans have died in service to our glorious country. We owe them a debt that can never be repaid. We can at least strive to keep the freedom they have won for us.
Here is an amazing performance of taps.

    • Arizona Conservative Guy says:

Thank you for this outstanding rendition of “Taps.” Her parents must be very proud of their patriotic and accomplished young daughter!!

      • Frankly Speaking says:

So was conductor Andre Rieu. You could see his expressions very clearly. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen a concert master not only graciously bow with a performer, but also kiss a performer on the cheek!

  2. Clementine says:

I looked Melissa Venema up. She was just 13 when this this concert was played. Today, she’s 26! Like Andre Rieu, she’s Dutch.

  3. Mr. and Mrs. America says:

Extreme leftist VP Kamala Harris has drawn the scorn of many for her Memorial Day tweet.
    Read about it here:

The dimocrat tried to repair the damage, but couldn’t even do that successfully. Judging from her photos, she spends more time applying false eyelashes than she does thinking.

    • Boy Scout Oath Reminder says:

She’s going to be in the Oval Office before long. That was all part of Barack O’Bama’s scheme to put his now demented, then just slow, VP Joe Biden at the top of the ticket. How else do you get a minority woman lacking in genuine experience as US President? Her well-connected married lover, SF Mayor Willie Brown, cleared all the hurdles in her path in California. It was also why there was a multi-pronged, concerted effort to keep Biden in the basement during the campaign, that has nothing to do with Covid. His obvious limitations, both physically and mentally had to be hidden (as much as possible) from the American people.

  4. Patriot PC says:

As I watch the many tributes to the fallen heroes that died for our freedoms I am so taken aback at those that say “Happy Memorial Day” as there is nothing happy about the loss of these brave heroes whose lives were cut short whose families still mourn for. Yet all we as Americans can think about is lighting the grill and chilling the beer and having a happy long weekend.
Coming from a military family from back to the Revolutionary War and every battle since to the present day with a 93 year old brother who received the Purple Heart from the Korean War who with our 94 year older brother, now deceased, who both fought in the WWII as well.2 sons, 3 grandsons, nephews, nieces,3 brothers, father, grand and great grand fathers and uncles. Flying my flag (which is flown every day) on a block that has not one flag but mine can only cause me to say WHERE IS THE PATRIOTISM IN AMERICA!! TODAY?

    • VINOAZ says:

I have a flag pole and proudly display the stars and stripes every day. There are a few flags in my neighborhood. Not a single one is at a house that displayed Biden banners. To be clear: leftists and most democrats are NOT patriotic.

      • Anthem Al says:

I previously regarded democrats as just “the other party.” After what we’ve seen and experienced in the few short months since Biden’s been in the White House, I no longer choose to have more than a superficial relationship with democrats. They are solely to blame for the radical policies, governmental overreaches, skyrocketing prices, unchecked influxes of illegal aliens (new dem voters) and massive taxation, all laced with deceit. Can’t be friends with America’s traitors.

    • Tucson GOP says:

You come from a linage of which you can rightfully be proud. I agree with your comment regarding the inane greeting of “Happy Memorial Day.” When someone dies a “Memorial Service” is held. That should be a clue the meaning of the holiday.

American History is no longer taught in depth in the public schools. The generations now assuming the reins of this great nation have little knowledge of our founding and the documents that under-gird our liberty. Worse yet, they are focused on entertainment, and many favor Socialism, though they know nothing about the destruction it causes.
