Leftist newspapers unified in their support of devious bill
This blatantly deceitful headline appeared in this morning’s Arizona Republic: “Sinema, Kelly back voting rights bill blocked by GOP.”
The newspaper best illustrates the depths to which it has sunken by skewing not only the news, but also the truth. H.R. 1, the House bill’s companion legislation was nearly 900 pages and unlikely read by any congressional members who were heralding it.
S. 1, the democrat backed bill, deceitfully titled, “For the People Act of 2021,” represented a major power grab and assault on the First Amendment, intended to give democrats total control over our election process, the federal government total control over state election laws, and, among other egregious proposals, precludes states from updating their own voter files as well as giving unspecified $millions of federal taxpayer subsidies to candidates to fund their campaigns. The bill, requiring no proof of the voter’s identity, expands voter registration (e.g., automatic and same-day registration) and voting access (e.g., vote-by-mail and early voting). It also limits removing voters from voting rolls, who have moved and are no longer eligible to vote in a specific precinct, benefiting democrat political incumbents. It drops the voter registration age to 16. And, of course, it would establish Election Day as a national holiday.
This list includes the “subject terms” that are assigned to S.1.
Read this illuminating opinion piece by Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), printed in USAToday, part of the same publishing network as the Arizona Republic. Sen Lee explains the nefarious scheme. The leftist newspaper leaves no doubt as to where it stands on the power grabbing legislation using a bold banner under the headline to assert its position.
This is the deceptively titled “For the People Act of 2021,” known as S.1. It is a companion piece to the House version, H.R. 1. Americans should be grateful for Republican diligence which has kicked it to the curb.
