Trump, Pence duke it out on AZ Guv’s race

Status of endorsers outranks candidates

Former President Donald Trump and his former Vice President Mike Pence have staked out Arizona’s Republican governor’s primary election as a battleground both for their own chosen candidates but with more than a whiff of personal competitiveness in the air. They are both considered 2024 presidential candidates.

On Friday evening Trump spoke in Prescott Valley supporting former newscaster Kari Lake as Pence addressed a crowd in Peoria, AZ declaring, “No one worked harder for the Trump/Pence ticket in 2016 and 2020 than Karrin Taylor Robson,” as he highlighted her fundraising for the GOP ticket.

There’s as much at stake for the endorsers as the candidates as Pence hopes to score another win against Trump in the endorsement category. In an unexpected 2022 drubbing, Pence supported Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, who made quick work (73.7% – 21.8%) of Trump-supported challenger, former Sen. David Perdue in the May 24, 2022 primary.

Lake, a former Obama donor and supporter, who twice left the Republican Party to become a democrat, has magically morphed into a conservative in time to run for governor, a job for which she has neither background nor capabilities. Karrin Kunasek Taylor Robson characterizes herself as a political outsider, though her family is enmeshed in Arizona politics.  Former Congressman Matt Salmon recently dropped out of the race.

Pence and Taylor Robson also visited the National Border Patrol Council’s office in Tucson. The Border Patrol union has previously supported Trump. Brandon Judd, president of the National Border Patrol Council has endorsed Taylor Robson in the governor’s race.

  1. Mr. & Mrs. America says:

We are solid Trump supporters, but part company with him on Kari Lake who changes parties as often as most of us change our socks. Obama promised to “fundamentally transform America.” That appealed to Kari Lake.

    • BenF says:

Scarrin Karrin didn’t talk obliquely about transforming America, she actually voted to implement policies that is continuing to transform America. I continue to rue the fact that we do not have a candidate we can all rally around, Scarrin Karrin will always be McStained as it is part of her DNA.

PS: It would have been a slam dunk if Congressman Biggs had decided to run. That would have made it an easy choice. Now the choice must be to avoid the one that will do the least damage to Arizona in the next four years and that is clear. Take Lake

  2. Arizona Conservative Guy says:

Kari Lake’s pal Merrick Garland, now Biden’s U.S. Attorney, sued Arizona over requiring proof of citizenship to vote. He sued Texas over it’s late term abortion restrictions. When she was doing Obama’s bidding, Kari Lake praised and promoted him for the U.S. Supreme Court.

  3. MAGA Hat Man says:

Fake Lake earned her name. I’m a solid Trump supporter who proudly voted for him, but draw the line with his endorsement of the well-named “Fake Lake.” He obviously got some bad advice.

  4. one who knows says:

We know what Karrin will – John McShame 2. Lake is a”more” of an unknown, and I will hold my nose and vote for her….too bad we do not have better candidates running.

Look at the US Senate race: two who are trying to buy the seat and one who is the adult – Mick McGuire is the right choice….we have had enough of what we have…

    • BenF says:

Amen! I pick Mick! He is the only candidate who has PROVEN that he will follow the Constitution and NEVER bow to pressure. He has an unmatched record of leadership that will serve us well.

    • Paying Attention says:

Your opinion on the US Senate race will have one result. It will keep Mark Kelly in the seat, which is shameful for Arizona to have to endure. Raising money or having enough to run a successful race is not a negative. It shows support and commitment.

Kelly is funded by Socialist George Soros and his many cloaked organizations. Kelly raised more money than all but one national incumbent.

Maybe the verbiage should be “Former President Trump spoke supporting former newscaster Kari Lake while America First turncoat Mike Pence spoke supporting former AZ Regent Karrin ROBson.
While Lake voted for Obams from afar, ROBson voted for and remained a close confidant of McCain.

I guess we can agree that neither candidate arrives with clean hands, but ROBson has sought and gained endorsements during the current campaign from the anti-Trumpers like Ducey, Christie, Fann, the Koch Brothers, and Kids Kare Brewer. These Rogues Gallery creatures in the battle against America First principles should tell us all we need to know about how she will govern.

When was that – what year?

      • East Valley Conservative says:

As the old saying goes, “The pickin’s are slim.” Kari Lake has an abundance of ego and deceit and zero credentials. I would never vote for this self-centered airhead.

How fitting that this linked article is written by someone who admits he/she is using a pseudonym. “It” must be very proud of it’s opinion.

      • hoi polloi boy says:

Sometimes one must protect their personal identity for personal or business reasons. I notice “Seeing Red” is a pseudonym as is “Clementine”.

        These are hostile times unfortunately.

  7. jojo says:

NEVER vote for anyone endorsed by, appointed to , worked for anyone in the McCain/Ducey machine. I’ll take my chances on a novice like Lake ( PDJT gave $$ to Clintons) rather than get sucked into another McCain stain. Suck it up Red State since you seem to be 1 of the establishment mouth pieces.

    • Seeing Red AZ says:

If you think SRAZ is an “establishment mouthpiece” you haven’t been paying attention. Disagreeing on a candidate is not an indicator of being part of the McCain cabal, which still exists, despite his three funerals. This is a conservative site. BYW, our name is not Red State.
