Leftist Associated Press is not our usual go-to spot, or a place to direct our readers, but this headline is a compelling attention-grabber: “Pope, Anglican, Presbyterian leaders denounce anti-gay laws.”
The article included this odd quote: “Pope Francis, the head of the Anglican Communion and a top Presbyterian minister together denounced the criminalization of homosexuality and said gay people should be welcomed by their churches.”
We are not familiar with efforts by churches to exclude anyone from religious services, “criminalize” them or restrict their participation within houses of worship. For the religious leaders to zero in on this topic is insulting to all of their church members. Although the Church of Scotland allows same-sex marriages, Catholic teaching holds that gay people must be treated with dignity and respect accorded others, though homosexual acts are “intrinsically disordered.” The Biblical city of Sodom was destroyed due to the prevalence of sodomy.
According to Catholic Answers, the Catholic Church teaches that such acts are always violations of divine and natural law. An explicit condemnation is found in the book of Leviticus (18:22, 20:13): “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination…If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death, their blood is upon them.”
It’s 2023. No one Is advocating death, but abstinence, in accordance with God’s law. Has political correctness caused religious leaders to abandon or forget their moral duty?
Most religions are losing members. Excluding anyone results in fewer congregants, and less money in the collection basket. Houses of worship have bills to pay just like those homeowners face. It costs money to keep the lights on and the water running, paying the mortgage and supporting the clergy.
Those of us who tithe are feeling the economic pinch even worse.
The Catholic Church is rife with homosexual priests and has been for many years. The Pope is well aware of that pervasive problem. Parents who allow/encourage their young sons to be altar boys, now known as “servers” are thrusting their children into an unsafe environment.

Married clergy is the answer. No other mainstream religion demands chaste leaders. Catholics are now allowing widowers to serve as priests.
The church is a breeding ground for homosexuals. Left it long ago.
So, D.B., you left Christ in the Eucharist because of a low percentage of sinful priests instead of standing with Him and the majority of His faithful ones? The Church doesn’t just suffer from sinful ordained members. Her lay people have hardly held up their side of the struggle against sin. Our prayer is that the 2000+ year old teachings of the Church effect the culture for the better, rather than the culture dragging the church down to its current cesspool level.
The deChristianization of America is coming faster and faster. Look at the churches in Europe that have been turned into museums or just shuttered. Christians turning on each other deciding who is Christian enough and who is fake. As long as no one cuts my head off I don’t care what religion you are. Remember the old saying “Actions speak louder than words”?
