Candid about candidate son’s disconnect from GOP base

“How much support do you think he has among the base of the Republican Party?”  C-SPAN’s Steve Scully asked John McCain’s mother in an interview set to air Sunday.

“I don’t think he has any,” said Mother McCain. “I don’t know what the base of the Repub–maybe I don’t know enough about it, but I’ve not seen any help whatsoever.”

Asked if her son can go on to be the GOP’s nominee, Roberta McCain said, “Yes, I think holding their nose they’re going to have to take him.”

  1. Frankly Speaking says:

I’m sick and tired of holding my nose, Mrs. McCain. And, I’d never do it for your son!

  2. Ray says:

Last time she was out speaking publicly she slammed Mormons. Roberta McCain is not her son’s best ally on the campaign trail.

  3. Maggie says:

Well, she certainly is aware of her son’s magnetic message and personality. Who knows us better than our own mother?

  4. Fooled Twice says:

Maybe it’s time he kept Momma home. She’s more honest than he is!

  5. Elizabeth says:

    My, don’t they look connected?

  6. Ajo Joe says:

Time for Johnny to get Mom a McMuzzle.
She rides the ‘Straight Talk Express’ more truthfully than he could ever hope to.

  7. Macbeth says:

Dead deer head over sonny’s shoulder is a nice touch. Is this a subliminal message? Remember the dead horse’s head in the bed of a marked man in the first Godfather movie?

  8. Thomas says:

One thing you can say about Roberta McCain is her candor is refreshing. She sounds a whole lot sharper than her son, who thinks he can pull the wool over the eyes of the American voters. We’re on to him, and she knows it. Good for her!

  9. John Q. Public says:

Doesn’t anybody like McCain? How does he keep getting elected?

  10. Gimlet says:

Ever heard of Ed Ranger and Stuart Starkey? No one else has either. Those are the two unknowns who have run against John McCain. If he had a real opponent, he would have been gone by now. One of these guys was a sixth grade math teacher!

The difficulty lies in raising sufficient money to take on a well-heeled, well financed incumbent.

My humble opinion, but I think it’s time republicans got behind the republican candidate lest Obama becomes our president and turns the U.S. into another member of the E.U.
