Prez Obama and PM Brown: Globally channeling FDR’s New Deal

In yesterday’s Sunday Times of London, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown wrote about his hopes for the U.S. and his country to forge an economic bond, calling for a “global new deal” to lift the world out of recession.

Brown writes: Globalization has brought great advances, lifting millions out of poverty as they reap the benefits of economic growth and trade. But it has also brought new insecurities, as this – the first truly global financial crisis – underlines. Globalization is not an option, it is a fact, so the question is whether we manage it well or badly. .

I believe there is no challenge so great or so difficult that it cannot be overcome by America, Britain and the world working together. That is why President Obama and I will discuss this week a global new deal, whose impact can stretch from the villages of Africa to reforming the financial institutions of London and New York- and giving security to the hard-working families in every country

The two leaders will meet Tuesday in Washington, addressing a joint session of Congress on Wednesday. Aides say the prime minister has to demonstrate to a skeptical British public that he commands the respect of the president, and has the ability persuade the American political establishment that global action is needed to rescue the U.S. economy, according to the TimesOnline.

Did we get that right? Brown needs to persuade us that we need global action to rescue our economy?

This precedes the G20 summit to be held in London next month, where new demands are sure to be made on the American taxpayer as we are held responsible for all the world’s ills.

Brown borrows from the rhetoric of Franklin Roosevelt, who introduced the government-financed New Deal during the U.S. Depression of the 1930s. He will argue that his 21st century “global new deal” will also require public spending on a huge world-wide scale.

Anyone want to guess who will be expected to foot the bill for the “world-wide” spending extravaganza?

Conservatives know that Democrat icon Franklin Delano Roosevelt presided over a venture into Socialism that began with fireside chats meant to instill calm during the uncertainty of WWII, and continuing with expansion of government created job programs, a dependent citizenry and efforts to pack the U.S. Supreme Court. Obama is no more the benefactor than Roosevelt but they have the goal of Socialism in common. We have an obligation to reject this failed system once again encroaching on our individual liberty and ensure this New Deal is not another bum deal for the American people.

I’ve read that Obama’s representative (after he was elected, but before he was inaugurated) to a 2008 G20 meeting was unseated Rep. Jim Leach, a liberal Republican, who not only gave a rousing speech endorsing Obama at the 2008 Democratic National Convention but is a long-time collaborator of the World Federalist Movement. This is a group that supports global taxes to finance world government. Just exactly what we’re looking at here. We’re heading to One World Government without a whimper.

Americans, dumbed down in government schools, voted for hope and change. We are unfortunately reaping the harvest sown by morons.

My liberal grandmother worshipped FDR. She also was warm to the concept of government nannism. Why do for yourself what the Washington crowd could do for you — even if they charged twice as much and did the job half as well.

FDR’s socialist policies will pale in comparison to what Obama has in store for us. I have to agree with the sentiments expressed by commenter Doug Johnson. When history is given short shrift and is revised by liberals, American students are uninformed. We can thank the left leaning National Education Association and parents who are too busy to instill values in their children. Have you noticed the young mothers with phones in their ears talking animatedly to their friends while ignoring their children? I see it every time I go shopping.

Great code words: “The global New Deal will “require public spending on a huge world-wide scale.” Beware!!
