AZ Legislator Frank Pratt hospitalized after Christmas attack

An Arizona State Representative from Casa Grande, Rep. Frank Pratt (R-Dist.23), was found beaten, bound and unconscious, inside his Casa Grande business on Christmas Day.

Pratt, 68, had gone to check his shop, Pratt Pools, when he was attacked by someone already inside the building, police said. Pratt’s gold 2007 GMC Yukon SUV (AZ plate 815-KYJ) was stolen.

Information concerning the vehicle can be reported by calling 911. Information regarding the crime should be relayed to the Casa Grande Police Department at (520) 421-8700.

CNN carries a complete report.

  1. Maggie says:

His wife didn’t check on him for FOUR hours after he left the house on Christmas? Strange. Also, if she found him unconscious, how did she hear him calling out for help?

This report raises more questions than it answers. First of all, why would a man who is savvy enough to get elected to the state legislature, leave his family on Christmas day to go “check on his business” leaving his cell phone at home? I read that in another account. And if the facts are as reported, did he see his attacker? Did he hear him speak? Where is a description of said assailant? In any case, what would someone be doing hanging out in a pool company office on a holiday? It would seem reasonable that any cash receipts would have been deposited prior to the Christmas closing. Something seems wrong with this picture.

  3. Cave Creek Cal says:

I doubt he was assaulted by an illegal alien, since I just checked his website and it doesn’t even address the invasion issue.

  4. Jay Bird says:

I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but much of this sounds bizarre. I wonder what the cops think?

  5. Detter says:

Definitely bizarre. I’ll wait for the full report before I make any statements. Too early to discuss.

  6. Sigmund Freud says:

KTAR is reporting the legislator was wearing a gold Rolex Submariner watch that was stolen along with his gold SUV. Those watches are over $20,000. I recently read that pool dealers were having a hard time in this economy. Guess not.

  7. East Valley PC says:

Gold SUV, gold Rolex watch. This guy must work as a p/t night watchman at Fort Knox.

  8. Koldkut says:

I think that by the time Janice heard him calling for help, he would have regained conscious. One or both could have figured out that he had been unconscious.

He could have bought his Rolex before the economy went sour.

Where did you read that Pratt left his cell phone at home? A cell does you no good if you’ve been clunked over the head and your hands are tied.

If he was hit from behind (the most likely thing), he would never have seen his attacker.

Blackbeard, you bring up the same thing that occurred to me:

    – In any case, what would someone be doing hanging out in a pool company office on a holiday? It would seem reasonable that any cash receipts would have been deposited prior to the Christmas closing. Something seems wrong with this picture. –

That made me think that this wasn’t just about a normal robbery, and that the theft was incidental to an intentional, premeditated brutal bashing.

Hmm… ‘car watch’ is Spanglish for ‘car wash,’ or vice versa. ‘Watch car?’ Probably means nothing, but I can’t help but recall Dr. Lucas Restrepo, the Phoenix neurologist who tried in April 2010 to influence voters against SB 1070, the immigration law amendment, by a couple of well-placed letters to the editor.
