What a novel concept

Seeing Red AZ has heard about an odd district meeting planned by the newly elected District 8 chairman Jim Burke. The March 12th meeting will feature editorial staff from the Arizona Republic and the East Valley Tribune.

According to reports, the theme of the meeting is to convince the elected precinct committeemen that these newspapers and their editorial policies are unbiased, objectively reporting the news and deserving of support.

Since the liberal Republic has reliably given unequivocal endorsements to the two left-leaning Republican ladies who represent the district, we wonder how hard-hitting the questions will be.

Conservatives with time to spare should show up and ask the tough questions. How often does such an opportunity present itself?

The meeting will be held Thursday, March 12, at Mustang Library, 10101 North 90th Street in Scottsdale, at 7:00 PM. A map is available here.

These two newspapers are up front about their perspective. There is no attempt whatsoever for them to conceal their true bent, which is leftward….and then some. What in the world is chairman Jim Burke thinking of? This must be a joke.

  2. Music Lover says:

    What?

    Where’s the Barber Shop Quartet?

    Looks like LD6 has a ‘copy-kat’…..

  3. Scott says:

It’s true. District 6 does have musical performances scheduled. You should have been there when the pre-election meeting room was filled with elected officials waiting to address the PC’s. They all had to sit on their hands and listen to the barbershop quartet trill several melodies before any of them could even speak. This included a congressman, the Sheriff and county attorney, the state chairman and a host of others, including the legislators representing the district. Not only was no one amused, it was embarrassing . The meeting ended up running so long they had to vacate the room before it concluded. The chairman in that district thinks he is running an entertainment show instead of a political meeting.

  4. LD 8 PC says:

Thanks for the heads-up Seeing Red AZ. I will be at the LD8 meeting to ask how the papers managed to pick so many losers in the 2008 AZ legislative elections. Right, the Repulsive makes no secret of their leftward bent-conservative Republicans who run as such win elections, much to the chagrin of our state’s largest paper.

  5. LD 21 Tim says:

You are kidding me! The chairman actually wastes the time of precinct committeemen with singing groups! They have all month to go take in the entertainment choices around town. Why does this guy insist on wasting the time of the LD 6 Republican committee? Because he CAN?! Pathetic!

What time does the real meeting start?

  6. Kate says:

Hey, folks, I’m trying to register Republicans! You’re not making my job any easier with this mickey mouse stuff. The local fish wrappers objective? Plleeeeeeese!

  7. Ron says:

    Kate:
I can only assume you’re looking to register REAL Republicans. That’s NOT what the editorial boards of these two newspapers are seeking as office holders. They never endorse actual conservatives. Have you ever seen such blathering as over the Obamessiah?

I predict BO will fall off the pedestal sooner rather than later. He is promising too much to too many with too little to back it up. We are in a freefall.

  8. Northland says:

Any effort to promote the Arizona Republic as an unbiased newspaper is a lie on its face, which means anything said after that, by whomever says it, is without merit and unacceptable information without independent confirmation. the AZ Rep can tell the unbiased lie a million times and it still won’t be the truth.

Another view of this “unbiased” foolishness is a more accurate statement that the Arizona Republic is not biased against itself. Does that not make it “unbiased.” We really need to identify the logic errors in such criminal behavior. Note: criminality is not limited to violation of just written legislated law, but the term also includes overt offenses against the truth and against other individuals and persons. Hence, knowing the Republic often taints, spins, omits (or fabricates) significant information with intent to deceive should be properly reported news, the Republic is clearly involved in criminal activity. Thus, those that join in the Arizona Republic cult live their misled lives with the false perceptions published in the Republic.

I cannot, in good conscience, refer to the Arizona Republic as a newspaper. It is more correctly defined a political blog. Sure it has some news mingled in it, but it is much more blog then news.

  9. Alice says:

I cancelled our subscription years ago because the biased reporting infuriated me. Why in the world would I want to waste my time going to listen to the left wingers in LD 8 tell me how wonderful the fish wrapper is. No wonder they keep electing the number 1 RINO in the state over and over again. OK all you libers out there, let’s hear it now for budget buster and Napolitano clone, Carolyn Allen!

  10. Chad Willems says:

    Dear sir or madam:

I read with great interest your item posted on February 21, 2009 titled “What a novel concept.”

As the 2nd Vice Chairman of the District 8 Republican Committee it is my duty, working with the rest of our board with input from our membership, to establish the programs for our monthly meetings.

The goal of inviting political writers from the East Valley Tribune, the Scottsdale Republic and the Phoenix Business Journal was not, as you say, “to convince the elected precinct committeemen that these newspapers and their editorial policies are unbiased, objectively reporting the news and deserving of support.” Quite the contrary. We invited these political writers to hear from them their perspectives on last year’s elections and the current political climate in LD8, CD5 and the state of Arizona in general.

Having such a panel will give Republicans in LD8 a chance to hear from these journalists and perhaps gain a new perspective. Nobody is trying to “convince” or otherwise influence anyone’s attitude about the mainstream media or anyone else. Proudly, we Republicans are perfectly capable of making up our own minds. (I believe it’s safe to say that the one issue all Republicans can agree on is the existence of liberal bias in the mainstream media.)

Whoever told the author of this blog item that the leadership in LD8 is trying to influence the thinking of any precinct committeemen is clearly mistaken, and that’s unfortunate.

JD Hayworth also spoke about this on his radio program yesterday. Because of my relationship with JD, having worked for him for 6 ½ years, I picked up the phone and called him. Once he understood how and why this program came together he apologized to me. He explained that he was just repeating a story he read on this blog.

We look forward to having a lively discussion of the issues that evening.

Thank you for your time and attention.

    Sincerely,

    Chad Willems
    2nd Vice Chairman
    District 8

  11. T. Pain says:

Very nice spin doctoring from Mr. Willems, but we all know the republic is just a democrat blog. They would never do something to help a real republican. The real question is why don’t they file campaign finance reports as a PAC? Is Sinema their next speaker? She can help them understand the plight of the poor “migrants” being forced back to their county’s of origin because of our evil laws.

I hope JD didn’t fall for their song and dance.

  12. seeingredaz says:

    Dear Chad Willems:
Seeing Red AZ stands by its post.

You say in your response that “[We] invited these political writers to hear from them their perspectives on last year’s elections and the current political climate in LD8, CD5 and the state of Arizona in general.”

The post “What a novel concept,” questioned the rationale behind furthering the acknowledged left-wing agenda of the media sources to a gathering of Republican precinct committeemen attending their district meeting.

Why not invite a conservative elected official who has been a stalwart on behalf of the taxpaying citizens, to address and motivate the group? The perspective put forth from the media sources would be no different than inviting a Democrat office holder to address the LD 8 PCs. Bring on Harry Mitchell and let’s do it right.

In our view, JD Hayworth drew the proper conclusion from the post.
    Sincerely,
    Seeing Red AZ

  13. Redbird says:

I am sure the ego of the “2nd Vice Chairman” of LD8 is a bit bruised by the well deserved comments on the decision to invite the political hacks (oops, that would be the writers) of the Republic Rag. Why would a group of intelligent and well-organized Republican PCs want to waste their precious time listening to the claptrap from the lowest slugs on the evolutionary chain of political writing? Where are the Republican leaders, the “makers and the shakers” of the Republican party to speak to their very necessary political troops? Surely the the PCs would rather hear directly from Carolyn Allen and Michelle Reagan as to why they voted for the Napolitano Budget Deficits which the current legislators are working overtime trying to fix. C’maon VP #2 Willems, you can do a lot better next time!

  14. Robert says:

As a Republican particularly proud of my party’s platform, I’m not inclined to spend an evening bolstering those in opposition to my cause. There may be a forum for the liberal MSM representatives to debate conservatives but, the local Republican committee meeting ought to be relevant to the task at hand which is electing candidates who have signed on the same set of principles I have-our platform.

The Republic’s daily harping against Sheriff Arpaio, County Attorney Thomas, Sen. Russell Pearce and other stalwart Republicans caused me to cancel my subscription. I don’t have to hear their “perspective” again. I already know their perspective all too well.

  15. LD8 PC says:

Very interesting post here. I agree Robert. I feel a debilitating headache coming on and scheduled to hit March 12 at 7 PM. I’ll take a pass this meeting. See you in April!

Alice, I don’t know if you are in 8 or not but you nailed it “Napolitano clone, Carolyn Allen.” I thought I was the only one who noticed that.

  16. Chad Willems says:

    Dear Seeingredaz:

No one is “furthering” an agenda. We merely invited political writers to hear their perspective on the elections, the political forecast, etc. We intend to ask tough questions about bias in the media. This program is an opportunity for Republicans to learn how these writers think. Consider it a “know thine enemy” tactic.

We have plenty of programs ahead for conservatives to speak to our group. In fact, our very own John Kavanagh already spoke at our January meeting. I think everyone needs to take a deep breath and relax here. There’s no hidden agenda or conspiracy.

You mention “JD Hayworth drew the proper conclusion from the post.” Here’s the point: the post is wrong.

The paragraph, “According to reports, the theme of the meeting is to convince the elected precinct committeemen that these newspapers and their editorial policies are unbiased, objectively reporting the news and deserving of support.” could not be farther from the truth.

    You are being misled.

    Regards,
    Chad

  17. Carlist says:

Perhaps the REAL reason representatives of these publications were invited to share their perspectives with the P.C.’s of District 8 lies in the fact that the ideology of their editorial pages matches that of District 8’s new “leadership”!
